Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnosis?
Have you ever daydreamed? Lost track of where you are when traveling? These are examples of natural hypnosis. People go in and out of these natural hypnotic states everyday.
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that is akin to the state of mind a person has during meditation. While it appears the person is sleeping, in actuality the two states of consciousness have nothing common.
Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis in and of itself is a very pleasant experience. It is a time to let go of the other thoughts of the day and focus on the issues you came to work on. Scientists, medical professionals and psychologists have been using hypnosis for over 200 years and no one has ever been hurt by simply going into hypnosis
Does hypnosis really work?
Yes. Hypnosis has been documented by doctors, dentists, and many other leading health professionals. Many television personalities have recently supported the use of hypnosis as a positive influence in reaching goals or changing bad habits (i.e. Dr. Oz, Oprah).
Is hypnosis mind control?
Hypnosis is not brainwashing. There are those who think hypnosis is dangerous because they believe a hypnotist can implant false memories into someone's brain or alter someone's personality somehow. This is not true! The hypnotist is not capable of causing a person to do anything outside of their ethical or moral beliefs. If the hypnotist makes this kind of suggestion, the client simply comes out of hypnosis or does not follow the suggestion.
When you are hypnotized, YOU have complete control of your actions, thoughts and feelings. The mind control concept is a product of Hollywood imaginations. It makes a great story for entertainment purposes.
Is hypnosis really like what they show on T.V.?
Yes and no. What is seen on stage, TV or in the movies is purely for entertainment. Hypnosis participants are volunteers who have agreed to follow the hypnotist’s suggestions. There is a strong possibility that the people are not truly hypnotized, but going along with the act for fun.
Can I learn to hypnotize myself?
Absolutely! The truth is all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The best way to learn is to have a qualified hypnotist/hypnotherapist teach you and to give you post-hypnotic suggestions to reinforce what you learn. Reading a good book on the subject is benefical. One recommendation is Charles Tebbetts, Self Hypnosis and Other Mind Expanding Techniques.
Can hypnosis be used medically?
Yes. Hypnosis can be used in conjunction with medical treatments to reduce stress, conquer pain and fears. Examples include:
· Cancer patients can reduce chemotherapy effects such as loss of appetite and nausea.
· Nervous expectant mothers can reduce fears of pain during childbirth.
· Fearful dental patients can reduce their gag reflex during dental procedures.
· Reduce the stress associated with the “White Coat Syndrome” aka fear of doctors, dentist, or other healthcare professionals.
Is hypnosis guaranteed?
You and ONLY you are in control of what hypnosis can and cannot do for you. If you want to make a change then you will make a change. Hypnosis can considerably improve your odds of success because it accesses the subconscious mind where habits reside.
Success is 90% mind power. Hypnosis can help you focus your drive and determination to succeed. Hypnosis can help to counter self-defeating beliefs, unlock your potential, remove creativity blockages, and move forward to achieve the goals you set for yourself. You gain energy to improve performance and ultimately to achieve greater success and fulfillment.
