As you remember, my husband had the problem of entering our local community hospital. Actually, before seeing you, he couldn't even drive by the building. Since the sessions with you, he has been able to drive by and come to the building where I work. I had kept reminding him that we really needed to go inside the ER in case of an emergency. (Since I work for the hospital, it is the only place covered by our insurance). He always had an excuse, so I didn't push it.
About a year ago, I had outpatient surgery at the same center where he had suffered a traumatic experience as a patient himself. I was all set to find a ride, but he said he would take me. I figured he would drop me off and pick me up when I was done, but he came inside and stayed till they were ready for me. (I didn't ask him to - he volunteered!) Now he wasn't able to stay inside the building during the procedure (he sat in the car and read a book), but when I was ready to leave, he came back to my recovery room and helped me get ready. I thanked him for his help, but I didn't make a big deal of it. I just acted like he had never had a problem - didn't want to remind him.
Now, here is the best part. Two weeks ago, my mother had been taken to the ER at the same hospital but was not admitted. When they called me to come to take her home, my husband said he would go with me (Again, he volunteered!). I said ok thinking he would wait in the car. BUT, when we got there, he went inside and all the way back to her treatment bay and stood around while they got her ready to go. I kept glancing at him, but he wasn't even breathing hard. It's a true miracle. Once again I thanked him for his help, but didn't go on about how well he had done.
I just wanted you to know how well he has done and I feel that now if there were an emergency, I would be able to take him for treatment.
Thank you very much,
Kathy S.
